Origin 2010 - The setting up

The day finally arrived its set up my stand for Origin.

just arrived!

My stuff before unpacking

me in my stand

It was a busy day but thankfully I had my friend Sam to help me with the install.

view of other stands

It was pretty chaotic at first, as you can see there was stuff everywhere, but gradually things began to take place.  When I left at 6.30 people were still frantically putting their stuff up.  The place was due to close at 7, not sure everyone will be finished.  We have an early start tomorrow with a press viewing at 9am, so there will be some people there early tomorrow I should think.

Here are some more photos of the install.

Tomorrow I will post some images of the final stand and I will also get to have a wander round and see all the other stands and take some pics of my favourites to blog about after.  I am also looking forward to getting to know my neighbours.

Artists who inspire me - Robert Rauschenberg

I was in Bilbao (Northern Spain) recently and went to the amazing Guggenheim there, where they had an exhibition of work by Robert Rauschenberg.  I  have loved his work for a long time.  When I was at college I discovered a book on him in the library and spent many an hour pouring over it.  He has been one of my biggest inspirations, so it was really exciting to discover some work by him that I hadn't seen before. The series is called Gluts.  All the pieces are made with found objects that Rauschenberg has put together to create amazingly beautiful sculptures.

You weren't really meant to take photos but I managed to sneak one in of one of my favourite piece before getting told off by the security guard.

Didn't manage to get its title but think its amazing.  The idea of taking unwanted and discarded objects is very dear to me so it was great to be in the presence of such a master at it.

New Maps

I bought some new maps for some new work I am doing.  I got a great tip off from What Katie Does a fantastic blog well worth a read.

These are the maps I picked up

and a lovely Paris one

I meant to post this before my last post but somehow forgot, I thought I would post it anyway to show the lovely maps that I have now cut up.

Count Down to Origin - works in progress

Origin opens in 3 weeks so everything is pretty hectic here at Brewster towers.

I thought I would share some work in progress shots of the new works I am producing for Origin.

Some humming birds waiting to be arranged and stuck down on their map

Pieces ready for the cutting to begin

Let the cutting commence

Some finished pieces

And that's as far as things go for now.
