Maps Lost and Found

I have been invited to be part of an exhibition at the London Transport Museum, which is part of the Cultural Olympiad next year.

I went along to the museum to choose some maps to work with.  Sadly I wasn't let loose in their archive but I was given a selection of old tub maps to work with.

Here's a selection

Intern wanted

I'm looking for an intern to help in my studio based in London.  I have a few projects coming up over the next few months that I need some help with.  I am looking for someone who knows photoshop and illustrator and is happy to turn their hand to most things.  I can pay all travel, within London and will provide a tasty lunch.

One of the projects I am working on is exhibiting at Origin in September, so it would be a great opportunity for someone to get an insider experience of the fair.

New Orleans

I was recently commissioned to make a piece for an hotel in New Orleans.  So here it is.  The photos are bit dark as it was a very dark and gloomy morning when I had to take them.

The commission was for a piece using maps of the New Orleans area and indigenous plants.

I chose a couple of maps of the State of Louisanna, that I sourced from ETSY and the flowers are wild blue phlox.

Works in Progress

Here are a couple of shots of some birds I am working on at the moment. I'm not sure which ones are going to make the cut at the moment, they still need some work.

Birdy Birdy

I was recently in the lovely shop Magama, always a great source of all things design.  They are always a particularly great source of artists cards.

I picked up these gorgeous bird ones, I just couldn't resist....

They are buy an artist called Jill, you can see more of her work here shopjill.com

The cards are screen printed on to beautiful thick watercolour paper which gives them a really great tactile quality.

The country is open

I've been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently, which is mostly due to a busy month of deadlines and exciting new projects that I am working on.

One of the exciting projects involved a meeting at the London Transport Museum, I will tell more when there is more to tell.

I'd never been to the LTM before, and it was a revelation, a great museum, especially if you have kids.  They also have a great shop selling all things London Transport related.

They are very lucky having an amazing back catalog of advertising posters.

Most of my favourites are from the 1920's and 30's.  Here are some postcards that I picked up

I love the idea that the country has opening and closing times.

By Henrietta Perry 1935

This reminds me of Sonia Delaunay.

Now I must go find my extra large hat and go dance in the streets....

London Transport Museum they have a great online shop where you can purchase lots of their lovely posters.
